Xypex Xycrylic is a water-based polymer admixture made to improve the performance of Portland cement mortars and repair materials. It is used as Part B with Xypex Megamix I powder (Part A), and can also be mixed with standard cement mortar. Adding Xycrylic improves curing, bond strength, water resistance, weather resistance, and helps reduce shrinkage cracking.
Xycrylic-modified mortars are tougher and more durable than standard, unmodified mortars. The added polymer improves flexural strength, adhesion, and resistance to water penetration, making it useful for patching, concrete repairs, and jobs that need an early return to service or exposure to liquids. It also increases adhesion to a wide range of materials, including concrete, masonry, brick, wood, and metal.
The admixture also improves resistance to many industrial chemicals, UV exposure, and heat. Mortars made with Xycrylic dry to a uniform color and normally do not require water curing, helping simplify the repair process after placement.
When used with Megamix I, approximately 1.16–1.25 gallons of Xycrylic are mixed with one 50 lb pail of powder. The material is mixed to a creamy consistency, allowed to stand for 3–5 minutes, then mixed again before application. Xycrylic is also available in 1.25-gallon bottles and has a two-year shelf life when properly stored and protected from freezing.
When used with Xypex Megamix I, Xycrylic meets EN 1504-3 requirements for non-structural concrete repair and is NSF 61 certified for contact with potable water, making it suitable for a wide range of concrete restoration work.
