Your Guide To Understanding MasterSeal M 205

MasterSeal M 205 serves as a single-component, moisture-curing, low-VOC polyurethane base coat. In this post, we’ll cover everything you need to know about this product!

Applications of MasterSeal M 205

MasterSeal M 205 can be used in areas like plywood decks and balconies, parking garages, plaza decks, stadiums, commercial construction, and building and restoration projects.

Surface Preparation Tips for MasterSeal M 205

For use on concrete, the concrete must be structurally sound, fully cured (28 days), clean, and dry (ASTM D 4263). To remove prior coatings and any other surface pollution, all concrete surfaces—both old and new—should be shot blasted. This creates a profile that will allow for optimal adhesion. Concrete repair must be followed by abrasive shot blasting. Etching with acid is prohibited. A proper profile should be a minimum of ICRI CSP-3 (as per ICRI document 03732).

Other mechanical techniques can be utilized to create the appropriate surface profile on balconies and other pedestrian areas where shot-blasting is not feasible due to space constraints or lack of access.

For plywood applications, all plywood must be smooth-faced and APA-marked. Construction must adhere to standards, although plywood cannot be any thinner than 2332 inches (70 mm). Deck structure and plywood spacing must adhere to APA standards. Contaminants must not be present on surfaces. With dry, clean plywood, there is no need for priming.

Application Instructions for MasterSeal M 205

Before starting the application process, all preparation must be completed. Make sure the substrate is dry, clean, sturdy, and well-profiled. Pre-striping and sealants need to be thoroughly cured. To achieve the necessary mil thicknesses, apply the base, middle, and final layers using a squeegee of the appropriate size.

Apply MasterSeal M 205 to the whole deck surface using a properly notched squeegee at a thickness of 25 wet mils (0.64 mm). Backroll it, then cover the properly prepared cracks, joints, and flashings. Expansion joints wider than 1 inch (25 mm) should not be coated. If the slope is greater than 15%, slope-grade material should be utilized.

Allow it to cure overnight (16-hour minimum). In chilly or dry weather, extend the drying period. MasterSeal M 205’s surface should have a mild tack. Consult technical service for advice if the coating has been exposed for a long time.

MasterSeal M 200 products in the 5-gallon pail have a shelf life of one year when kept in proper storage.
