Sikaflex®-1A is a high-performance, premium-grade, non-sag elastomeric, moisture-cured, polyurethane-based, 1 component sealant. It is intended for use in damp and green concrete applications. CHARACTERISTICS / ADVANTAGES:
Removes effort, equipment and time for mixing, cleaning of equipment, pre-heating or thawing and filling cartridges. High elasticity – cures to a flexible, durable, tough consistency with exceptional tear and cut resistance. Rapid tack-free and final cure periods. Conditioning of Product: Before use, condition material to 65°-75°F. Ensure all surfaces are clean. Ensure joint walls are clean, sound, free of oil and grease and frost-free. Thoroughly remove any foreign matter and curing compound residues. A coarse surface will also increase bonding. Installation of backer rod or bond breaker tape will prevent bonding at the base of the joint. It is usually not necessary to prime. Priming is only required for most substrates when sealant will be exposed to water immersion after cure or if testing indicates a need. Control joints must be cut 8 hours before installation of sealant and in expansion joint forms, must be removed 4 hours before installation of sealant for green concrete applications. All standing or excess water must be discarded and concrete must be let dry for at least 60 minutes before installation of sealant for wet concrete applications. APPLICATION METHOD / TOOLS:
Recommended application temperatures: 40°-100°F. Condition units at approximately 70°F for cold weather application; remove before use. For best effectiveness, Sikaflex-1a must be added into joint when the joint slot is at mid-point of its designed expansion and contraction. Hold the nozzle of the gun into bottom of the joint and fill the entire joint. To avoid entrapping of air, keep the nozzle in the sealant and continue with a steady flow of sealant prior to the nozzle. Do not overlap sealant to prevent air entrapment. On green concrete, Sikaflex-1a can be used once the concrete has cured for at least 24 hours at 75°F. Expansion joints must have forms removed at least 4 hours before application. Control joints must be cut and open for at least 8 hours before application. Sikaflex-1a can be applied 60 minutes after any and all water has been discarded for damp concrete applications.
